New Guy at Chez Insanity !
Now Playing: "Together in Electric Dreams" - Giorgio Moroder, from the "Electric Dreams" soundtrack

Current Mood : Spendthrift !

Spent on dolls today :  $16.08

Well, it's back to the ole grind today - Beloved Hubby went back to work, Dearest Son returned to school. The house seems so quiet...not that I was here for long !

All the errands I couldn't run New Year's Eve got done today, along with some reconnaissance. We decided to return the Lego Star Wars Y-Wing we bought him (PILs bought him the same thing, and gave it to him Christmas Eve...growlmutter) since he'd fallen in love with an even more expensive set, and his birthday's this month. Figured after car payments were made and the recycler got the cans, I'd run over to TRU to check their Lego offerings and then return the Y-wing to Mal-Wart, pick up some groceries.

TRU had less Lego than Mal-Wart ! Shelves were stocked, they just didn't have much Star Wars. They did have an action figure ID wheel, with various Lego ships on the back, so I got that for him as a lark. Then I hit the Barbie and dolls section. Not much in the clearance section, although I do want the My Scene Roller Girl Barbie. Well, mostly her skates and spare outfit, I don't really want the doll. But they're still $10., like they have been since before Thanksgiving, so I'll wait. BTW, did it bother anyone that ‘Rollergirl' was a pron* character in a very adult-themed movie, Boogie Nights ?

I wanted to see the ‘pivotal hybrid' Fashion Fevers. Not bad, I was tempted by a really pretty Raquelle. Clothes were nice, too. But the arms looked like sticks ! No real ‘definition', they were like flesh-colored cylinders with hinges hanging from the shoulders. Come to find out, many Fashion Royalty dolls have similar ‘tube' arms. (sigh) Those bend-wrists, though, are darn tempting ! It's also funny that the boxes are decorated with a single black shoe and pink purse. Get two FF dolls, and ya got a free pair of black slingbacks ! And two more-or-less useless tiny hot pink purses. Even the Ken doll had the shoe and purse decoration. He was cute, but too much like my Christmas beach Ken.

Seeing him reminded me - Keeping Ken showed new guy doll photos, and one had my interest. Evidently there's a Fairytopia CGI movie, and there's a prince character named Carlos. Photos of him in-box on KK made him worth a quick hunt. Here he is on Jef's site - http://www.manbehindthedoll.com/NKNEWS.htm . He was in with the Island Princess line, for some reason, and yow ! Well, you already know I got him from the photos. $9.99, not bad at all, and he has a unique look - always important !

I love his face and hair, sort of a frosted dark brown color, but his costume is lacking. If you're wondering, the wings (dragonfly wings ?) are thin plastic, sewn to the shirt back. They're not at all attached to the doll, and can easily be removed from the shirt. Unfortunately, they shorted his pants again (sigh) and his boots are butt-ugly. It's really a shame, because the pants are well-tailored and have a great ‘feel' to them. His pointed ears are barely noticeable unless you're lookin' right at them, but for some, this may be a deal-breaker. Since I have green girls, catgirls, and ogres around, that doesn't register at Chez Insanity !

He has buff arms, ball-joint shoulders, and gymnast-style elbow joints, along with a pivoting waist under the shirt. His head is strictly right-to-left, but he has those good hip joints, and gymnast-type knees. Only his head is soft vinyl, the rest is rigid plastic. Out of the ‘Prince Eric' knee boots, he can stand unassisted. Very nice, especially for a guy doll under $10.

I was register ready when I noticed a few dozen Hilary Duff Barbies on clearance. Hmm...some good props there, and I liked the shoes and dress...for $4.98 ? OK. I've seen the dress - minus the big red waist bow - on other dolls, and it's nice. Plus, I'm a flat-out sucker for velvet rope props. Got one that didn't have a flaking polka dot at the bustline and I really was ready for the register this time. While waiting my turn, I looked at the included trophy - it's like a silver #1 ponytail Barbie ! Can do a lot with that prop...it's big enough to use with Elphie. And heck, you're doing well to get a single outfit with shoes for $5. these days. Can always donate the doll, once redressed.

Returned the Y-wing and got a few groceries, including some key identifiers. Since our bedroom and the Lab now have locking doors, there's more keys - and those two and the housekey look identical. The nail polish I tried on one is nearly worn off already. Dearest now has his big birthday present, ready to go, and I got some super-cheap candy canes. Well, I'm addicted to peppermint vanilla coffee now. Gotta keep up supplies, and at 22c a box, I might as well do it cheap !

*'pron' is a well-known term used to circumvent safety filters. Switch the o and r around.
