Current Mood : Happy to go yard-saling with Dearest Son today...
Spent on doll stuff : $1.08
And, as April lurches to a close - frankly, I'll be glad to see it gone ! - I'm relaxing after a fun afternoon shopping a bit with Dearest Son. He found an amazing Maisto Mercedes-Benz model still on its display platform for $3. at GoodWill, and I got a sandwich bag of Barbie clothes for a buck. Normally, I'd have passed the clothes by, but in it was a pristine example of the pretty blue-tone dress the brunette 'Bead Blast Barbie' wore. I already have a slightly damaged yellow/orange version from the redhead one, and probably about three of the pink one the blonde wore. So it was nice to find the last one.
Also in the bag was a ruffled apron with a gingerbread man secured to the front pocket. It's very well-made, and I'd think it was a Mattel one, but there's no tags and I can't find another like it. There's a pair of super-bright pink corduroy pants and a shiny nylon pair of light pink pants from a Stacy-sized doll, and a pretty 'Made in China' green velveteen dress for a similar sized doll. I also scored an oversized pink sleepshirt and a kids-meal Blue Fairy doll from the 'live action' Pinocchio movie. She's getting re-donated.
We then hopped over to Dollar Tree and got some mundane things. Last time we went to TRU, I was momentarily entranced by a bounce-ball the size of a small globe, filled with green glitter suspended in liquid. I loved both the shimmery white one and the shiny green one, but for $8., no way. DTree to the rescue ! I found a palm-size ball with pretty green glitter that bounces high and shines so prettily. Mine ! Speaking of glitter, they also had that 'fine powder' glitter in an array of colors, but I didn't get any. Pretty, though. Found a hairbrush I liked. Boring, mostly.
No flea market this week, but yard sales were everywhere ! We stopped at one block and hit three sales. Dearest made out like a bandit. He scored a GI Joe board game, a plastic moving truck (right up his alley with recent events !), two Hot Wheels cars, a real but supposedly non-functional cell phone, and a joke book for $1.75 total ! I scored a small photo frame (doll-scale !), a book, a Disney Princess folder, and a VHS copy of Howard the Duck (joke for Beloved Hubby) for a buck. Not bad at all !
Here's what's kinda funny. Yesterday, I was watching a few vintage Barbie ads on YouTube.com. Dearest saw the one for the Star Traveler Motor Home, and now he wants one. I've told him that, since it came out when I was his age, the only way to find it would be at a yard sale. So now, he's not only obsessed with it, but he and I are pretty much looking for the same thing - Barbie stuff !
Wish us luck finding one ! While the toy itself is fairly cheap on eBay, shipping's normally about twenny bucks. His Deloreans will go further if we can find one we don't have to mail !
