No good deed...especially when it's done for family...

Current Mood : Muttergrowlwhinesneer....

Very little Lab time was to be had today. It was Uncle's big moving day - he picked up a ya'll-haul and he and BIL spent the afternoon going through the two 14-ft trailers and our packed garage, pulling out Uncle's stuff. Well, pulling out the boxes that hopefully contained Uncle's stuff, evidently many of the boxes were mislabeled, so they had to open each one to verify the contents. They were lucky I had tape to reseal them with, normally we don't have tape besides knockoff Scotch tape in a desk dispenser. I'm even out of masking tape in the Lab.

It ended up taking forever, with dog, cats, and people in and out of the house every ten minutes, so I couldn't concentrate much, and just puttered instead. Dearest Son was hyper-excited (he really loves big trucks, and a ya'll-haul is darn near irresistible) and everywhere all at once. When the dust had a chance to settle, Uncle had his truck loaded, and BIL's stuff completely filled one trailer and our garage. I gotta remember to ask Uncle who he promised the kitchen cabinet and the Rubbermaid closet to, since he's not taking them with him.

He still had errands to run and a car trailer to attach to his truck, so Uncle went off with BIL, hoping to come back in time to still leave today. I kinda knew it wasn't happening, but I wasn't gonna say anything. Uncle returned, long after ya'll-haul closed, saying he'd have to get the party started tomorrow. I was glad he'd get a good night's sleep first. I understand his eagerness to get going, but it really didn't seem like he was really ready yet.

At least Beloved Hubby got to say goodbye and wish him well. Uncle'll be here tomorrow, to pick up the truck and get his car attached, and get going. After he runs a few more last-minute errands. Poor Uncle.

BIL put his foot in it several times, and I'm really getting close to my limits again. He was here in our living room, but talking to a friend on his cell phone - it's always so nice to hear 'I can't talk now, but...' when someone's two feet away. He then sneeringly complained to his buddy that all his stuff was 'locked up in a horse pasture'. Well, excuse me for storing your crap on our trailer on our property - your cheap butt would prefer to pay for a climate-controlled storage facility and renting a truck for two weeks ? Sheesh.

He later compounded it. We'll probably drop his trailer-load of stuff to DMIL & DFIL's house this weekend, and let him unload as he pleases, then pick up the empty trailer next week, since Beloved will need it then. He wants to load it with all his construction trash, have us drive it back here, and unload it into our Dumpster for him, as a free trash disposal service. Um, no. For one, it's over a dozen huge, heavy Contractor bags of drywall. It won't fit in our Dumpster, and we're not adding it to the pile. The pile we had to add to, to empty the trailer for his midnight move. Plus, the Dumpster didn't get emptied this week - it's full of other construction junk from DFIL's house - because of the trailers of stuff. No. Sorry. You're actually gonna have to pay for something for once, BIL. I know this much -  Beloved is really getting tired of being the family 'free' option, then not even getting thanked for it. No one's even offered to pay us for the tank of Diesel we used for all this, much less the wood we had to buy for the trailer, and I'm not even gonna start in on the damage to the truck. So BIL's basically ridden a willing horse...not to death, but the 'horse' is beginning to bite.

I will be so glad when all this is over, and everybody's crap is gone ! I'd like to focus on my own crap for a while !

About all I really accomplished in the Lab was to add a cup hook to the cart, on the side opposite the ribbon dowels. It's plain white side was perfect to display the awesome 'cassette tape' print tote bag I snagged from Dollar Tree, and the kids' lunch bag from Subway. I got the Barbie-pink 'Discover Paris' one, since I fell in love with the image on it. So much that I willingly ate a kids' meal, and even gave Beloved my Doritos, and we split the soda. Poor Beloved drove to two Subway restaurants before we found one with the 'Paris' bag still in stock ! I smile whenever I see it.

I think I'll go look at a bag now, and calm down.

Oh Dorrie I am really feeling for you.  I know this can't be an easy situation to be in with it being family.  But even with family you may just have to put your foot down to lay down the law and let people know that even though you don't "mind" helping, you do not have the word "free" pasted across your foreheads.  I know, easier said than done.  I just hope the chaos ends soon so you and the family can get back to business as usual.  Hugs to you and just roll with it until now.  As my dad always says, Friday's coming.  :-)
